Two wrecks in Victoria County sent four people to hospitals Friday morning.

A 42-year-old Goliad woman was taken to DeTar Hospital after her 2002 gray Ford Explorer collided with a 2007 white Saturn Outlook at the intersection of North and Main streets.

Additionally, Sue Castillo, 61, of Victoria, and a 1-year-old girl were taken to Citizens Medical Center, according to Victoria Police Department patrol officer Al McLeroy’s report.

The Explorer was traveling west on North Street when the driver, Valencia Bland, failed to stop at a stop sign, hitting the Outlook, driven by Castillo, which was traveling south on Main Street, McLeroy said. The 8:34 a.m. collision caused the Explorer to flip on its side. Victoria firefighters had to cut off the sport utility vehicle’s roof to remove the driver.

Bland, who was alone in the SUV, was wearing her seat belt. She was written a citation for disregarding a stop sign, according to McLeroy’s report.

Castillo and her passenger were released from Citizens Friday. The child was in a car seat and the driver was wearing her seat belt, according to the report.

Earlier in the morning, around 5 a.m., a man, described as in his early 20s, was taken to DeTar Hospital after his truck struck a utility pole on Farm-to-Market Road 236 near the Lakeview subdivision in Victoria County.

Traffic was re-routed around the scene. The crash knocked out power to customers along FM 236 between Southwest Moody Street and Zac Lentz Parkway. It was restored several hours later.

Additional information on the wreck was not available Friday from the Department of Public Safety.
