Editor, the Advocate:
Soon, we get another chance to decide who will represent us for VISD trustee, District 5. Tami Keeling, the incumbent, has done an excellent job and really should not be opposed.
Of course, that was before MTV came to town. Now Charlie Jaynes, husband of dance and drill team director D.J. Jaynes, has thrown his hat in the ring because he, his wife and their elite clan of friends are mad at Superintendent Moore and want his head on a stick.
The hiring of Superintendent Moore and the passing of the $159 million schools improvement bond last year has VISD on track to becoming a superior district. Having survived consolidation and a host of other bad ideas from previous boards, we are very fortunate to have Tami and her fellow board members working tirelessly on plans that have the district moving in an exciting direction.
Please do not let the demons of the past drag us back 10 years in time and destroy the progress being made. Re-elect Tami Keeling on June 14. She's entirely about you and me and the future of VISD and not MTV.

fatboy, I also agree...you don't fire the incumbent just because you think the other guy is a nice doctor. It does involve a lot of time and effort to bring a new member up to speed.
I happen to like Jaynes personally, but think that Tammy has put a lot of time and study into being an educated school board member and I do not have any issues with any decisions she's made as such.
So why change leadership midstream when there's $159 million of our money at stake?
I say reelect Tammy for our superior school district in the making!
May 26, 2008 at 8:11 p.m.Fatboy, I agree with everything you say. I believe I was misled and did not face the facts. I am soo relieved to know that I get a second chance vote in this election. This election is far too important to let slip by. Our schools and students deserve the best and Tami Keeling is the best!
May 26, 2008 at 6:24 p.m.district 5 better wake up. I hope we all choose to right person. The new split will be very time comsuming. The ceu's needed to be up to par will be like wise. The hiring or realigning of staff will be a huge process. The board will have to meet more than normal and during the normal business hours. They have too. Its to much. We should vote on who will represent all of VISD as a representative of District 5. My vote goes to Ms. Keeling as well.
May 26, 2008 at 4:26 p.m. Are all the candidates sitting in on the budget process or at least aware of the deadline?!? I think its due late summer or early fall.
I am going to confess that a month ago I wouldnt have seen things the way I do now. In the election on May 10th I voted for jaynes. I voted for him because I felt that he was a nice family man and I know of several moms who are patients of dr. Jaynes. I will admit that I made a huge mistake and should have voted for Tami Keeling. I wasnt aware of how qualified and experienced Mrs. Keeling is. I certainly did not know about his wife and about his conflict of interest with the drill team. I am so glad that I will have a second chance at this election and make a better voting decision. I am probably like many who got caught up with all the publicity and signing which gave jaynes the attention. I will definately vote for Mrs. Keeling on June 14. I am so sure that so many other victorians might have made a mistake as I did by voting for the doctor. It pays to be informed. And it was a mistake that could have won it for her! Tami, You now have an extra vote!
