Editor, the Advocate:

I am glad to see some judiciary in Texas have seen the need to abide by the Constitution of the United States of America. Can someone, finally, now rein in Child Protective Services in this state? Texas with its long history of personal freedom, has succumbed to this bureaucratic monster's whim. I am in the minority who think that the Child Protective Services of Texas had no right to seize these children. I have had personal experience with this group of extremely under-trained and inadequately-prepared group of almost high-school dropouts. I have also received their “form” letter. Repeated calls to supervisors yields nothing. It is my hope and prayer that some judge somewhere has the testicular fortitude to stand up to Child Protective Services of Texas.

  • Sailor, you would be surprised (or maybe not) how many of these baby daddies aren't minors. Yet they still walk free to impregnate again & again. Also how many of the underage girls have multiple births before they are of age who still live with their parent(s) & the parents aren't charged or even investigated. Double standards everywhere!

  • Once CPS was called in they had to follow procedure or else they open themselves up to lawsuits. Maybe if the entity that actually raided the place had more info than an anonymous tip this could have all been avoided.

I too wonder why law enforcement doesn't go after the dads of babies born to underage girls....

  • For the girls who were put in unwarranted situations, so sad the government didn't have their evidence in order to protect them. Will they ever find the girl who called in?
    Doesn't look like it.

For the 5, 6 and 7 yr. olds taken away from their mothers in cases of where "immediate danger" cannot be proven, how great they are back with their moms.

This is a royally messed up case, but in America it has usually been innocent until proven guilty, and these children taken from their moms had done nothing wrong. We can't arrest people for the crimes they MIGHT commit in the future.

These kids had a tough encounter with guilty until proven innocent.

  • When decency and common sense take a back seat to "...just following procedure..." YOU KNOW YOU ARE A REDNECK. That's, of course, assuming that CPS actually followed procedure here. Obviously, they didn't, or the courts wouldn't have to be reminding them of the law... All adults should be held accountable here - CPS too! "I was just following procedure when we held this 27 year old as a minor..." Yeah.

  • When anything involves a child--everyone goes nuts. Lose all common sense. Everyone goes into, "cover your arse" mode. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. At least these people were intelligent enough not to start shooting at Law Enforcement Officers.

  • As in Waco, this exercise was not done well. It was a show, or was trying to be a show.

What if some "unknown caller" set the raid to go to your house with nothing going on? What about an "unknown caller" saying they (an underage person) were in your house and drugs were going on and they did not want to be there?

Why don't they raid the houses of those underage children that show up in emergency rooms giving birth? I have been told my more than one nurse I know that it happens from time to time.

Whose so called "religion practice" that is not approved by the all seeing all knowing government will be raided next per a "unknown caller"?

  • Considering CPS didn't lead the raid at this compound it is hard to lay the blame on them. They were called in & had to follow their procedures. It is up to a judge to rule on what happens to the children & parents after CPS places them in temporary care. This guy is placing blame where it is unwarranted.

  • I find it appalling that this guy doesn't understand the gravity of this whole situation. Much of the problem of this country stems from adults devaluing children. Child Protective services is around to protect children because in many cases, there is no one else who can. It has nothing to do with a bureaucratic monster, and everything to do with looking out for the kids. No child should ever have to suffer at the hands of an adult. In this case, I think the right call was made. The children should have been of the highest priority. I'm glad that measures such as Jessica's Law are being enacted around the nation. Let's protect the kids from predators and wackos.
