He may be down and out, but Joey Falcon will keep on dancing.

The 18-year-old hip hop-dancer from Victoria was well on his way to achieving his dreams when it was suddenly derailed on a technicality, his dad, Joe Falcon said.

As a member of the Planet Funk dance studio in Houston, Falcon was chosen along with six other studio dancers to represent Planet Funk at the auditions for the MTV show “America’s Best Dance Crew” in April.

His team made it through the first two rounds and were almost on their way to Los Angeles where the show is filmed. Unfortunately, one of the Planet Funk’s dancers is from Russia and was having visa troubles, Falcon said. And although the team did extremely well at the auditions, MTV said they couldn’t wait for the visa problems to be straightened out and they dropped the team from the show.

“Joey was devastated. The whole team was devastated,” Falcon said. “But they’re starting to heal.”

The elder Falcon also added that Joey plans to keep on dancing and teaching classes in town.

The younger Falcon’s dance career started in secret, when at 15 he would dance in front of the mirror in his bedroom.

By the time he was a senior, he decided to come out of hiding and try out for the newly formed Memorial High School Hip Hop Dance Team.

He made the team with flying colors and soon after he also started dancing at Planet Funk a couple nights a week before he was asked to join as a studio dancer.
