One drummer hopes his music would bring more people to God.

Eloy Galvan, 41, played on stage with the Church at Spring Creek Praise and Worship Band during the Christian Contemporary and Rock Music Festival on Saturday.

“I believe that through music, you can minister to people,” Galvan said. “When we’re doing it for God, there’s no greater feeling. It’s hard to explain how one feels.”

The all-day concert helped raise money for missions in Africa, event coordinator Tom Rendon said. While the festival charged no admission, Rendon asked for donations.

The money would help maintain a church in Monrovia, Liberia where people have no running water or electricity. Rendon visited Liberian refugees last November in Ghana, where thousands of Liberians were on their way home after the end of a civil war.

Many didn’t know if their parents or spouses were alive, he said. They thought God was punishing them, but Rendon and others taught them of God’s love, turning 250 families to the Lord during his three-week stay.

“We’re needing about $30,000,” Rendon said about establishing a church. “They don’t have Bibles. They don’t have medical supplies.”

Rendon hopes to have the benefit concert again next year with the name Faith Fest.

The bands volunteered their time and talent to give back to God through Rendon’s ministry, Omega Apostolic Ministries, Inc.

Drummer Brian Bowden, 20, couldn’t wait for the opportunity to play for the families in the audience as his band, From Here to Eternity, started out as a garage band.

“We feel like God has given us our talents and we feel like we should give back to Him,” the Faith Family Church member said.
