Lawyers are still edging toward a deal for a former Memorial High School principal accused of lying to get his job.
“We’re still trying to work the kinks out,” said Todd Dupont, Michael J. Maples’ defense lawyer. “This is not a normal case.”
Maples is accused of not admitting his criminal history and lying about his military service to become Memorial’s principal.
Dupont is negotiating with District Attorney Stephen Tyler, he said, but Tyler was in a special grand jury session Tuesday morning.
Maples pleaded guilty in federal court in January to stealing from an Oklahoma City school district he once worked for. He starts a year and a day federal prison sentence on June 2, Dupont said.
The same school district is also suing Maples in an Oklahoma City civil court.
Maples’ Victoria trial for making false statements for property or credit valued between $20,000 or $100,000 is currently scheduled for July 23.

I am not going to argue the point, but a lot of people lie on their job applications. Having said that after all of this is done, maybe the truth of the military conviction will come out.
May 30, 2008 at 3:22 p.m.I lived in Oklahoma for 18 months and my son was born there... I didn't have to have a state driver's license because I was a military dependant.... but my military id had my correct height and weight on it...
Back to the topic at hand: Maples lied on his job application and it wasn't something as inconsequintial as height or weight. It was about his criminal record! He knowingly lied about it! Oh sure, he can argue that his arrest and CONVICTION didn't count because he was in the military, but it ain't going to cut it. I don't think the DA should even consider a deal for Maples. Maples needs to learn a lesson from this: don't lie, cheat or steal.
May 30, 2008 at 12:59 p.m.As much as I hate to admit it, so far Texas has been a much much better place to live than Oklahoma.
May 30, 2008 at 12:26 p.m.Yes it counts.....you are a Texan that was momentarily misplaced. Oklahoma in their words is "OK!" (that slogan there says it all!!!!!!)
May 29, 2008 at 11:24 p.m.hey, heY, hEY, HEY! I came down here from Oklahoma.
I'll have you know that OK has some fine.... dust storms. And, and, ummm, more miles of (some of the sorriest) interstate highways than almost any other state in the union. And... and... not more than 10% of married couples are closer than first cousins!
And my weight WAS correct on my driver's license... at one time.
Ernie
ps. I was *born* in TX. Does that count?
May 29, 2008 at 11:22 p.m.I have pneumonia & I'm hopped up on the 'roids....I'm in no mood.
May 29, 2008 at 11:05 p.m.VBB: Hey girl, that was cold. You should be nicer to the refugees.
May 29, 2008 at 10:43 p.m.sucks for you........for everything.
May 29, 2008 at 10:38 p.m.But to answer your question yes, I moved to Euless last year from oklahoma city, so yeah my license has the weight on it.
May 29, 2008 at 10:35 p.m.Euless, and that was the argument I have heard from people about it.
May 29, 2008 at 10:33 p.m.My weight must be 6' 1". Leo no too brighto.
May 29, 2008 at 10:09 p.m.I am wondering the same? mine doesn't have that either! where you from Oklahoma?
May 29, 2008 at 8:56 p.m.I don't have a weight on my DL....where are you from???
May 29, 2008 at 8:52 p.m.I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the DA is the one working on the deal. Also give him the maximum? For what? Lying on a job application? What is your weight on your drivers license? If it isn't accurate didn't you just lie on an official document?
May 29, 2008 at 8:50 p.m.So, the DA is working out a deal for Maples! Oh HOGWASH! he doesn't deserve a deal! Give him the maximum! Leslie, Thanks for the update!
