BLOOMINGTON – Advanced placement and dual-credit classes helped Luis Trevino and Bonnie Hybner graduate with grade point averages over 100.

Bloomington High School’s valedictorian, Luis, and salutatorian, Bonnie, will graduate Friday with averages of 101.45 and 100.36, respectively. About 10 points are added to final grades in higher level courses, bumping the students up over what is normally a perfect score of 100.

The students have known each other since ninth grade and have been near the top of their class throughout high school.

Q: What was your reaction when you found out you were valedictorian and salutatorian?

LT: “We’ve been up there the whole time, so it wasn’t really a surprise.”

BH: “He’s always been first, but for those of us under him it’s been competitive.”

Q: What was your motivation for doing well in school?

LT: “My parents. My dad didn’t finish high school, so I would be the first in my family to get an education and hopefully go to college.”

BH: “My motivation was to get a good job when I got out of high school, go to college and get a degree.”

Q: What’s your favorite thing about school?

LT: “I go to see my friends and have a good time.”

BH: “The people. The faculty has been really good. And seeing my friends every day.”

Q: Who has been an inspiration for you to succeed?

LT: “My mom because she’s always pushing me to be a success and live a good life.”

BH: “My family’s always inspired me to do my best.”

Q: How does it feel to be graduating from high school?

LT: “Bittersweet. It’s great to finally be out, but the downside is that a lot of us won’t see each other again.”

BH: “It’s amazing to be finally finished. We’re adults with more responsibilities.”

Q: What is your graduation speech about?

LT: “It’s about the people who have helped me and the memories I’ve had here.”

BH: “Mine’s about memories of our class. Things will change, we’ll go our separate ways but we’ll always remember our time here.”

Q: What do you plan to do after you graduate?

LT: “I’m going to Texas State (University). Right now, I’m undecided but I want to something with engineering.”

BH: “I’m going to Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi. I plan to major in biomedical science to be a dentist. I graduated in December, but I work at LyondellBasell, a polymers plant in Victoria, in the document control center. And I take classes at The Victoria College.”

Q: What do you think you will remember most about high school?

LT: “My friends and the memories we had.”

BH: “All the teachers that have influenced me. My friends and all the stuff we did.”

Q: What advice do you have for other students?

LT: “Don’t give up. Keep trying. If you want something, work at it and eventually it will work out.”

BH: “If there’s a will, there’s a way. I took plenty of classes I wasn’t good at, but I had determination. You can do anything you set your mind to.”

May you strenghten along your future paths.
When it seems as though its getting harder to get to your goal, look back and see how far you have traveled and that alone will be enough for you to say.. I have to finish.
By the way Awesome Picture! Says alot.
