Candidates for an interim city manager for the city of Cuero will come from the Texas First Group Replacement Service.

Company co-founder Don Davis addressed the city council during a special session Wednesday and got approval to proceed with finding two or three suitable candidates for the council to interview. The company is made up of a network of city administration retirees from across the state.

The interim city manager would serve until a permanent replacement for retiring City Manager Corlis Riedesel is found. Riedesel, who announced her retirement on May 16, is on vacation until Saturday, when her retirement becomes effective.

Police Chief Glenn Mutchler is serving as acting city manager, and the council approved Wednesday extending his tenure past Saturday until an interim manager is hired.

Davis also presented the council with a draft contract for the city attorney to review before a final agreement is reached. He explained that the company would charge the city $41 an hour, based on its current budget for the city manager’s position.

“We serve exclusively at the pleasure of the city council, so no time frame is included in the contract,” Davis said, noting that most cities employ their members from three to five months. “You’re hiring the company and not just the individual, so you have access to all of our resources.”

Davis said the company would try to find someone with the background, experience and personality that best matches Cuero. He also asked that the interim city manager be provided “some sort of housing and be reimbursed for two round trips per month to go home.”

Davis is expected to provide the council with a list of names and resumes for it to consider at its next meeting on Thursday.
