I think Mayor Armstrong is right – this is politics by the DA. Steven Tyler needs to go. I know that I am not the only one that thinks so and we are not a minority. I’ve talked to a lot of people and we all feel the same way. Steven Tyler is behind all this mess.

Indictments: That is what happens when you elect Republicans in your county, city, state and country. Do we expect impeachments? I don’t think so.

In that matter with the police chief and the former city attorney and our district attorney: I think that our district attorney is fair. What’s with this police chief; he has got two stars like a major general. Is he wearing a uniform like some of these third world country dictators? Why don’t he just put ten stars on his sleeve or his collar? It is ridiculous. Reminds me of a Third World country’s dictator.

I think that the indictments are appropriate. Smith is an arrogant crackpot and Ure should have researched Victoria politics before he stepped in it. The illustrious mayor better hope no other city hall bigwigs, especially the top two, are indicted. Oh, and does that publicity hound sheriff warmly embrace everyone else who is indicted on multiple felonies.

I’d like to make the point that this is not political. It can’t be. The district attorney only gathers the information. The grand jury is the one that makes the decision on whether or not to indict these people based on the evidence that they were presented with. It is not the district attorney; he just gave them the information. The grand jury decided to indict. I don’t think it is political.

Victoria’s new slogan should read “Victoria, land of the criminals.” Who’s next?

After reading about the police chief and the DA and all of that, I can’t help but think that the DA and the grand jury were selected by the people of Victoria. The police chief: Where did he come from, who is he, why is he here? Sort of lends a little credence to the legality or the fairness of the whole thing.

I believe the indictments are political, but maybe they will cause state or even federal scrutiny of the Victoria law enforcement community. Too many innocent people are being jailed or paying huge fines simply because they are poor or don’t have lawyers.

Remember it was the grand jury of ordinary citizens, not the DA, that reviewed the evidence and listened to witnesses and voted to indict Smith and Ure. There is probably a reasonable case against them. Those who would blatantly and adamantly defend them, such as the mayor, would be wise not to grandstand in the paper. Smith and Ure apparently thought that they could speak as they chose to manipulate public thought with immunity. The grand jury, according to the law, sees it otherwise.

If the order to leave during a hurricane is mandatory, of course we will leave. The law is the law and “mandatory” denotes legality. I assume your stipulation of city includes such as Woodsboro. If not mandatory, we will stay put.

Bill

Woodsboro

If there was a mandatory evacuation for the city, you can bet I would be the first one in line.
