Faith Academy’s top students will continue a family tradition by going to the same college as their parents.

Andrea Graff, the school’s valedictorian with a grade point average of 98.87, and Ashley Hamilton, the salutatorian with a 98.30 grade point average, will graduate Sunday and then in the fall attend Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Okla.

Both of Hamilton’s parents and Graff’s mother attended the university and stayed in touch. The girls met in seventh grade when Hamilton’s family moved from Oklahoma to Victoria.

The families remain friends as Graff’s father, Jim Graff, is the pastor of Faith Family Church and Hamilton’s father, Forrest Hamilton, is the pastor at the church’s campus in Gonzales.

Q: What was your reaction when you found out you were valedictorian and salutatorian?

AG: “We only have 11 people in our class, so it’s always been close.”

AH: “Yeah, like I had the highest GPA in 11th grade, and she had the highest in 10th grade.”

Q: What was your motivation for doing well in school?

AG: “I just did my work.”

AH: “We’re both hard workers. I want to do my best. I don’t really think about it as long as I do my best.”

Q: What’s your favorite thing about school?

AG: “It’s fun for me because it’s a small school so I know everyone, all the teachers and students.”

AH: “I don’t really like school, but it’s fun to see the people.”

Q: Who has been an inspiration for you to succeed?

AG: “I think our parents have always supported us.”

Q: How does it feel to be graduating from high school?

AG: “I’m excited about college.”

AH: “It’s pretty good but also weird that it’s over.”

Q: What is your graduation speech about?

AG: “It’s just talking about graduation and looking ahead to the future.”

AH: “It’s about how different people and God have played a big role in our lives.”

Q: What do you plan to do after you graduate?

AG: “I want to major in communications. I just like that, but I’m not sure what specialty I’ll choose. I’ll also probably minor in music. I like to sing. I’m excited about going to ORU. We’re going to live in the same hall.”

AH: “I don’t know what I want to do yet. But I’m looking forward to it because I lived there, so I’m used to that area.”

Q: What do you think you will remember most about high school?

AG: “Just the people, my friends and everybody I’m close to.”

AH: “The people. The teachers and students.”

Q: What advice do you have for other students?

AG: “Do the best you can. Work hard.”

AH: “But make sure to have fun, too.”
