No one was injured when a duplex caught fire Saturday night.

Victoria firefighters responded to heavy smoke coming from Apartment B at 804 S. Depot St. at 8:15 p.m., battalion chief Roger Hempel said.

"When the first crew entered the front door, fire flashed on them," Hempel said.

The temperature was high enough for everything in the apartment to ignite, he added. Firefighters searched the home several times for occupants and none were inside.

The occupants of the adjoining apartment evacuated before firefighters arrived, he said. Fifteen firefighters assisted to control the fire within 20 minutes. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Red Cross was called to assist the occupants.
