SAN ANTONIO - Three lost fumbles and an interception in the first half put the Calhoun Sandcrabs in a 17-point hole that they were an extra point away from overcoming.
The kick that would have tied the score at 31-all in the fourth quarter was pushed left though, and the Pflugerville Henderickson Hawks escaped with a 31-30 Class 4A, Division II regional win over the Sandcrabs on Saturday at the Alamodome.
Xavier Archangel ran for 244 yards and two touchdowns, while adding a 90-yard kickoff return for a score for the Sandcrabs who were down 31-17 before scoring 13 unanswered points to finish the game and their season.
Hendrickson (10-3) advances to play Kerrville Tivy next week in the quarterfinals, while Calhoun finishes with a 9-2 record.
Sterling Jones ran for 94 yards and a touchdown for Calhoun, while Esteban Martinez kicked a 47-yard field goal as time expired in the first half to put the Sandcrabs on the board for the first time.
Kenny Williams led the Hawks with 186 yards on 22 carries, while Marquese Dunn ran for two touchdowns and 62 yards.
Due to the game's late start and an early Advocate production deadline, a more comprehensive story will appear in Monday's Advocate.

To our beloved Sandcrabs,
November 30, 2008 at 2:34 p.m.Hold your heads high. In no way are we disappointed in you. You all made a huge statement last night with your come back and we are so proud of you. Seniors, we will greatly miss you next year. It breaks my heart to think about not seeing X, Sterling, and Daylan running together next year. All of you seniors did an AWESOME job. You have nothing to hang your head over. Also, thanks to the CHS coaching staff. You guys are GREAT!
Thanks for an awesome, exiting season. A win just wasn't to
November 30, 2008 at 1:53 p.m.be. We are all so proud of our FIGHTING SANDCRABS. No longer will you be a pushover scheduled for Homecoming games. Lots of people have really looked up and taken notice of your journey. With so much talent in the underclassmen ranks, looks like we will be bboking rooms in
San Antonio for years to come. Again Thanks for a great season and keep your heads high. Also my comps to the coaching staff for a job well done.
To the Sandcrab players...you guys have had a great run this season...and have shown that you deserved the ranking you got this year. There were mistakes that were made in the first quarter...but then the Hawks had their share of them too nothing is ever perfect...but you came back like Spartan Warriors and ended up only 1 point shy...that's just the way it is. Seniors...thanks for 3 years of exciting football. Along with Coach Whitetaker and the rest of the coaching staff...you have brought our school and our community back out of that 46 year rut...and gave us all back our pride, and although we would love to win one someday...what you have done for all of us has been worth more than any state title. You've set records and made history....so you guys hold up your heads high... you have represented us and our district well...and we are so very proud of you.
Underclassmen....you have lots of talent...we look forward to you all picking up the gauntlet and carrying on.
School Board...if that coach talks about leaving or anything...give him a raise...he deserves it.
Sandcrabs...now and forever!!
