The head of the chupacabra will on display at Turkeyfest

CUERO - You can almost hear the carnival barker shouting, "See the beast that has sucked the blood from hundreds of chickens! See the chupacabra, up close and personal! Step right up!"

The head of the mysterious creature killed earlier this year near Cuero will be on display during the annual Turkeyfest. The "chupacabra" will be displayed in a glass cooler from 1-6 p.m. Saturday in the Turkeyfest Mall at Cuero City Park.

Phylis Canion, who owns the property where the body of the yet unidentified animal was found, said that on Tuesday, Texas State University requested another tissue sample from the animal for additional DNA testing. The first sample was sent to the school in late July. In addition, the University of California at Davis has expressed an interest in conducting DNA testing.

T-shirts and souvenir items bearing the beast's likeness will be on sale. They may also be ordered via the Web site www.cuerochupacabra.com.

Admission to the festival grounds is $2 before 5 p.m., and $5 after 5 p.m.
