BRYAN - Shiner St. Paul battled back from behind twice with Gil Hodges and Josh Soto leading the way in a 40-14 win over the Bryan Brazos Christian Eagles in a TAPPS Division IV, District 3 contest.

Soto scored on runs of 1 and 9 yards as he ran for 87 yards and threw for 88 yards and a touchdown.

Hodges pounded the ground for 320 yards and scored on runs of 82, 8 and 1 yards.

The Eagles (5-3, 2-2) hit first on a 75-yard run by Chad Milburn, but Soto and Hodges struck back for a 12-7 first quarter advantage.

David Ordones hauled in a 13-yard pass from Jake Bronowski as the Eagles went back up 14-12 early in the second quarter.

But Hodges struck back with his final two scoring runs for a 26-14 halftime lead.

The Cardinals (7-2, 3-1) iced the game in the forth when Soto hit Jack Matusek on a 34-yard scoring pass and then ran for a score with 6:38 to play.
