Torin Bales Fine Jewelry’s grand opening celebration and open house is from 6 to 9 p.m. tonight.

The event, at the new store at 6007 N.E. Zac Lentz Parkway, allows guests a chance to see the new site and raise money for charity, store owner Torin Bales said.

Proceeds will go toward breast cancer awareness.

October is breast cancer awareness month, he explained, and it seemed fitting. Bales also lost his mother to breast cancer 12 years ago.

“I’ve always wanted to do something in tribute to her,” he said.

The shop will sell 50 gift bags for $50 apiece, he said, and at least 10 of those bags will contain fine jewelry pieces.

“We’ll get at least $2,500 from that,” he said, explaining between 300 and 400 people will likely attend.

A portion of the night’s sales will also go toward research.

Store employees chose the first Thursday of the month because it wouldn’t interfere with church schedules, Monday night football or Friday high school football games, Bales said, but another anniversary makes the day special.

“It’s my mom’s birthday,” Bales said. “A perfect night for us.”
