A grass fire started at 12:35 p.m. Tuesday at Bottom Road and Ben Jordan Street and burned 14 round hay bales and eight acres of grass.

Equipment used for baling hay may have set the grass on fire, but the cause is still under investigation, said Battalion Chief Roger Hempel with the Victoria Fire Department.

One fire engine, one tanker and two brush trucks responded to the scene and had the fire under control within an hour and a half, he said.

The hot days and low humidity contributed to the fire, he said.
