The St. Joseph Flyers didn’t expect to be playing the week before opening TAPPS Division II, District 3 against Giddings State School, but that’s exactly what’s about to happen.
The Flyers (2-2) will host the Danbury Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Patti Welder Stadium in a game that wouldn’t be played if not for Hurricane Ike.
“I think we have things going in the right direction and this is just a way to keep the polish on it,” said St. Joseph head coach John Mares after finalizing his team’s plans on Tuesday. “I think we are putting everything together on offense and defense. We want to stay healthy, but we want to stay sharp.”
St. Joseph is coming off a 48-7 non-district win over Corpus Christi John Paul II, while Danbury was unable to play for two weeks before losing to Ganado last week.

Tickets for Memorial’s District 27-5A football game at South San Antonio at South San Stadium on Friday at 7:30 p.m. will go on sale today from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the VISD Athletic Office located off Miori Lane in the Memorial Stadium parking lot. Tickets will also be on sale Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Tickets are $5 for general admission and $3 for students. All tickets at the gate will be $6.
