No new judge or date has been set in the police chief's aggravated perjury trial.
Bruce Ure was scheduled to stand trial April 20, but Judge Robert C. Cheshire stepped down from the case last week.
In a letter to local administrative judge Kemper Stephen Williams, Cheshire wrote an unrelated matter might effect his appearance of impartiality.
David Peeples, the presiding judge for the Fourth Administrative Judicial Region will choose Cheshire's replacement. The trial date will be set by the new judge.
Ure is charged with lying to the grand jury that indicted Michael Ratcliff on charges he sexually assaulted a teenage boy while sheriff. Ure has said he and other officials were concerned the investigation into Ratcliff was not being handled properly. Ratcliff was District Attorney Stephen Tyler's chief of staff when he was indicted.
