The city council's reaction to news about indicted Victoria city officials Thursday ranged from no comment to feelings of elation.
"We have a lot to be thankful for, and I'm glad to close this chapter," Mayor Will Armstrong said. "I'm pleased that a majority of the council can focus on the important issues involved with day-to-day operations of the city."
Council Member David Hagan said he had been busy with work and hadn't heard what happened.
"I have confidence in the system," he said. "I never had an ax to grind one way or the other."
Council Member Tom Halepaska said he didn't want to discuss the details.
"I'd really rather not say anything," he said. "It has been a long, hard one."
Mayor Pro Tem Lewis Neitsch said the actions shine a positive light on the city.
"We've had to bite our tongues a lot through this process," he said. "Hopefully, everything from now on will move a lot smoother."
Council Member Jim Wyatt said he's excited the judge ruled in favor of the city. "I hope that's the end of it, and we'll just move forward."
Council Member Paul Polasek said, "I'm pleased and glad we can put that behind us. Hopefully the other cases will turn out favorably."
Council Member Philip Guittard said it's good Criminal District Attorney Steve Tyler was taken off the case and the indictment of Police Chief Bruce Ure was dismissed.
He said he hopes the same will happen with the indictments against former City Attorney David Smith and police Capt. Ralph Buentello.
