Editor, the Advocate:

I would like to bring to your attention a wonderful man seeking re-election to the city council. David Hagan, 41, is the son of a retired colonel, husband for 17 years to his wife, Lisa, and father of two, Justin, 9, and Michelle, 7. He has been a resident of Victoria for 10 years, has a bachelor's degree in Public Administration, and master's degree in Divinity. He works for Regency Nursing and Rehab Centers recruiting nurses and staff for Hospice and medical facilities. He is a dedicated public servant. For the last three years, Hagan has faithfully served on our city council as a defender of taxpayer dollars. At a time when our city needs fiscal restraint, Hagan has fought, sometimes alone, against wasteful spending. He looks at every proposal as if it will directly affect each resident of our city. On the proposed increases in property and water taxes, Hagan was the only opposition. Hagan has not forgotten who he serves and still goes door to door to hear their voices personally. He is a man with principles and Christian values.

With Hagan on the ballot there is no other choice.

Trissa Carter

  • It don't matter what credentials a person has. It's whats between his ears and what comes out of his mouth that counts.

  • That's funny, CityObserver! Have you seen the Hagan ad on tv? At the end of the ad he states that he will stop wasteful spending if he is re-elected to the City Council.

Wonder why he would so publicly point out the failures of his first term, and then ask that we give him another change to get it right? That sounds like a pity vote! If we agreed and re-elected him, then what happens after the next term when he again fails to deliver? Give him one more chance? Bet that whole term-limit stuff would start to look a little less good at that point, wouldn't it?

What voters should do is have mercy on this poor, pitiful man! Give him a ticket home, let him return to his everyday life. He is obviously struggling with just basic things, like filing mandatory paperwork for his campaign.

This Saturday, if you have not already done so, please go vote for James Martinez. James will restore honesty, integrity and sound leadership to District 4, Victoria City Council.

  • Ya know, as I look at my last statement"Excuse me, I gotta go BELCH!"--I may just use that as my sign off on future posts-- when something aggravates me-PROVIDED it's not too distasteful, inappropriate, or makes me sound like I have no manners. Oh Well.

  • OH GEEZ!
A Masters' Degree in Divinity(making)? Aren't they the little white candy things?
A man with Christian values? I have found that the FIRST person who brings up RELIGION is the one to look out for! "We are a Christian family." I heard that more than one time from someone who had something to hide. Like, saying you are "Christian" holds you above everyone else. I'm Christian, some of my friends are Christian------so? Frankly, no matter What religion you are, if you believe in the LORD or Jesus Christ, then you are Christian, no?
I wish people wouldn't bring in religion as a "tool" thinking it will help them get elected or look BETTER than someone else!

I'm getting off the subject--excuse me, I gotta go BELCH!

  • Zorro,

Sadly, Hagan is not a "check or a balance" for anything.

Timely reporting is required and a part of keeping campaign business straight.

If he were really about checks and balances, he'd have a campaign treasurer to double check that he has everything correct.

If Hagan is running on keeping all the others in line, maybe he should lead by example and make sure his own house is clean first.

Otherwise, sounds like an arrogant bag of hot air to me.

  • Agreed Trissa!!

  • "He is a dedicated public servant." Doing what? Besides Rotary, what has he done?

"...faithfully served...as a defender of taxpayer dollars." Only 10% of the time. By his own admission, 90% of the time he was voting WITH the rest of the City Council.

"He is a man with principles and Christian values." So is James Martinez.

"With Hagan on the ballot there is no other choice." Yes, there is, and it's the FIRST choice on the ballot--James Martinez.

Vote James Martinez for City Council, place 4.
