Texas Gov. Rick Perry will visit the University of Houston-Victoria at 2 p.m. Thursday for a ceremonial signing of House Bill 1056, the legislation he formally signed in June to allow the university to admit underclassmen.

The ceremony will be in the UHV Multi-Purpose Room, 3007 N. Ben Wilson St.

Also taking part in the ceremony will be state Rep. Geanie Morrison, state Sen. Glenn Hegar, and city and county officials.

The public is invited to attend.

The governor signed HB 1056 on June 19, paving the way for the university to add freshmen and sophomores in the fall of 2010.

Morrison sponsored HB 1056, and Hegar introduced identical companion bill SB 567 into the Senate.
