Two people were injured in a late night house fire in south Victoria Wednesday.
Roger Hempel with the Victoria Fire Department said a resident of the house at 2902 Francis St. was taken to a Victoria hospital after inhaling smoke.
A firefighter was also taken to the hospital for treatment of a minor steam burn and later released.
The fire department does not released the names of patients.
Hempel said the department received a call a 11:28 p.m. of a mattress on fire in a bedroom of the house.
About a fourth of the house was in flames by the time firefighters arrived, but was under control within about 15 minutes.
There was severe fire damage to two rooms and the rest of house had severe smoke and heat damage, Hempel said.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
