BROWNWOOD, Texas (AP) — A man who confessed to killing his ex-wife and dumping her body at a landfill in Brownwood must serve life in prison.

A jury in Brownwood on Tuesday sentenced 46-year-old Jessie McCord of Bangs, who earlier pleaded guilty to murder in the 2008 death of 59-year-old Denise Banks.

Her body, wrapped in bedding, was discovered last August in the landfill.

McCord told jurors that his ex-wife verbally provoked him and he grabbed a knife and stabbed her. Prosecutors say the killing was premeditated.

Bangs is about 140 miles southwest of Fort Worth.
