HALLETTSVILLE - An exhibit depicting the history of the Lavaca County Courthouse is on display at the Lavaca Historical Museum.

The 1899 courthouse is undergoing renovations that include plumbing, electrical, and mechanical needs, among other improvements.

The museum exhibit includes details on many of the county officials from the late 1800s. Also included in the display are photographs from inside the clock and bell tower.

The scandal of the water well on the courthouse square is also detailed.

"The exhibit gives visitors a perspective on how the courthouse came about. This is a great time to see this display now that the courthouse is undergoing renovations," said Janice Saunders, museum administrator.

The exhibit includes a section on the July 4, 1899 dedication ceremony and news articles from the cornerstone ceremony and all the planning that was written about and published in area newspapers.
