WHARTON - Shirley Pigott, former Victoria doctor, was convicted Thursday of two felonies for evading arrest with a motor vehicle.

The charges stem from a September 2007 traffic stop when she refused to cooperate with Department of Public Safety troopers and fled the stop twice, once at speeds of 100 mph, according to a news release from the Wharton County district attorney's office.

The jury acquitted her of aggravated assault of a public servant for attempting to force a DPS trooper out of her way with her vehicle, according to the news release.

Pigott faces two to 10 years in prison and is not eligible for probation. She elected to have the judge set punishment. The punishment hearing will be Oct. 30.

Pigott lost her medical license in April after failing to comply with a previous medical board order, unprofessional and dishonorable conduct, and impaired mental status, according to the Texas Medical Board.

Wharton County Assistant District Attorney Gordon Dudley prosecuted the case. Pigott was represented by Houston-area lawyer Jerry Payne, according to the news release.

  • Well apparently you have never been to Skyveiw or Jester 4 units Reverend. Those are just 2 of the units right off the top of my head. I have, they are both mental illness units and have programs. I never said they were the best of programs but they are offered. Inmates refuse to take medication, refuse help..that's really their problem.

  • I do know Dr. Pigott from our mutual problems with the TMB. The TMB is widely known as the "worse medical board in the nation". The TMB is full of political appointees with no special qualifications to sit the board ---the Texas State Bar is no better ---Gov. Perry needs to go. The AAPS (American Academy of Physicians and Surgeons) is 18 months into their suit they filed in federal court for multiple TNB civil rights violations ---I'm close to filing my own. The TMB is arrogant, ignorant and unprofessional ---I have first hand knowledge about what I speak. Dr. Pigott is very bright but also she has been very sick recently ---She should have got probation but was denied that. I saw several violations of regulations and law that the arresting DPS officers made. The most stupid violation was getting into a high-speed, night-time chase when they already had her license plate number. Protocol states they should have backed off rather than risk lives of the public ---but they didn't. I have a strong opinion of why she did what she did but I will not violate her privacy expressing it.
Speaking of privacy ---when she first appeared before the outlaw board for failing to get a lab report out in a timely fashion. She appeared before Dr. Miller (one of the worst) he proposed a fine and probation that included dropping into her office every three months and puling 30 patient files and reviewing the contents ---WITOUT ANY OF THE PATIENT'S KNOWLEDGE OR PERMISSION ---A BLATANT VIOLATION OF THE PATIENT'S FORTH AMMENDMENT RIGHTS! She refused to allow this and hired an attorney. Her attorney helped plead this down to protect the patient's rights who had seen her ---there is a fair chance that the young woman who was so proud she held off her boy friend for three years before surrenderdly her viginity ---as if that was something to be proud of, I doubt she wants some stranger (hopely) reading her file. Remember she protected you while you are shredding her with your vitriol.

There is much more but I do not wish to go in to it.
There is a good chance that the suicide of her husband, Dr. Pigott triggered her relapse. I also have personal experience in that too ---my wife committed suicide in 1975 and it was the worse experience in my life nad I knew she would do it someday ---but I didn't rum away ---I tried to help her to the very end ---it still devastated me for almost two years. Please try to remember the good that Dr. Pigott did for many of you and judge not --unless you are perfect in all aspects of your life!!!

  • I don't know Dr. Pigott well enough to make a judgement on her mental state but I can tell you that when I exposed corruption at the State level in NH a judge order me to be evaluated by the Chief Forensic Psychiatrist of the NH State Prison Secure Psychiatric Unit for the Criminally Insane. His name was Dr. James Adams. That is an intimidating title. His evaluation consisted of 8 pages of derogatory statements that were not only slanderous but perjurious. I decided to post my psychological evaluation online and linked it to the recordings of the death threats against me. It read like a comedy skit from Saturday Night Live. The Prosecutors dropped their charges of mental illness after Dr. Adams did a 180 and refused to testify at my competency hearing. In my case, they tried to use the medical community to do what they could not do in the courts in front of a jury. So her allegations ring true to this whistleblower.
They still have not given up. Just Google my name and you will be shocked to what you will hear. Some of it is X rated for extreme violence and it is all by admitted agents for the State of NH.

  • My thoughts are with all the boys...their father was a wonderful man...but this is so not surprising about their mother, but then we don't have the choice when it comes to picking our parents.

  • she will not be eligible for probation.
    (not parole)

    August 28, 2009 at 6:08 p.m.
  • why wouldn't she be eligible for parole ?

  • Agreed Fatboy, why no mugshot?? If you're a doctor, I guess no pic when you're convicted. Anybody else, plastered right up front.

  • This is a sad story. My heart and prayers go out to the Pigott family. There is so much more to this story than what people know. Fortunately not only was I a patient of Dr. Pigott, but I served with her son in the same Army Reserve unit for a number of years. He was serving in Iraq when he found out his father killed himself. You can only imagine what he is going through at the moment. So out of RESPECT for a SOLDIER and VETERAN please keep the comments respectful. SGT Pigott my prayers are with you.

  • they should have revoked her driver's license, that's for sure.

  • You are misinformed jr mental health rehabilitation, therapy, (read my post) I also work for the prison system. You did not work for the health care side of the prison I see. What they do for inmates is a joke.Have you seen inmates hanging from rafters because noone had the time for them. I have .Someone who is suicidal they throw in a cell by themself with no clothes on, no blanket, until they feel they are no longer a threat to themself or anyone else. What do you think that does to someones mind? There is nothing wrong with me and i know it would have an effect on me much less someone not in the right state of mind.Guards of both sexes just walking by looking at them, no way to cover themself up.

  • 15 years ago, Dr. Pigott became my doctor after an insurance change. During the five years that she was my doctor, she acted very professional and caring. During the last year I was with her, I had a serious medical problem develop and because of a push she gave to get me in to see a specialist one afternoon, I was rushed to surgery that same day, which so happened to save my life. After another insurance change, I had changed doctors. I do not know Dr. Pigott’s whole life story, just a small part, and I was glad and thankful that I was under her care at that time.

  • "reverendmwagner
Prisons do not provide mental medical rehabilitation, so she will recive no treatment if incarcerated."

You are misinformed. Yes they do have mental health care in the prison systems. I worked there for over 12 years and there are units through out the state that house and treat nothing but mental illness.

  • What none of you are mentioning is the rest of the story. What about the five plus years that the TMB went after her? Should we dismiss that? Where was the Victoria Advocate when that was happening? Why did they decide t publish a story when she lost her license but said nothing about how her license was threatened for nearly five years because she didn't send out tests in a timely manner? There's a lot of judgments being made about Dr. Pigott and very few about the newspaper.

  • wow vic that is some video.... but the blogger is definitely on dr pigott's side. i can see why they are prosecuting her, she could have gotten quite a few people killed.

    August 28, 2009 at 11:54 a.m.
  • You'd have to ask her, oh wait, the Victoria Advocate published the piece without getting her side. Does that seem like good jounalism? Dr. Pigott has been pleading with the Advocate to tell her story for nearly a decade and the only two stories about her are this one and when her license was suspended. That's it. Does that seem like good journalism? A local newspaper gets this much traffic from a story about a conviction on a traffic stop. Does that seem right? Why is this story so popular in a local newspaper? Wouldn't it behoove the Advocate to expand then? Why aren't they expanding?

  • Prisons do not provide mental medical rehabilitation, so she will recive no treatment if incarcerated.

    August 28, 2009 at 11:43 a.m.
  • if there is more to the story and such, why did she flee at such high speeds ?

    August 28, 2009 at 11:41 a.m.
  • Vic,

True. But I could tell you numerous other LE stories about the same person which happened right here in Victoria But I'm not one to put other's information out...Not sure that prison is the solution, seems like she needs some mental help.

    August 28, 2009 at 11:14 a.m.
  • Yeah, what about her patients? Oh wait, there's no patient complaints. In fact, the only problems Dr. Pigott has had was with the TMB and Wharton Police both of which have histories of corruption. Dr. Pigott has a long and detailed story and yet her local newspaper hasn't covered any of it until her own run ins with the law. Isn't that interesting?

What's really happening here is this. There is a very long story that would indict a whole system if it came out, but the media only chooses to report on some of it. That's what happens with almost all whistle blowers. Congrats to the Victoria Advocate for giving everyone a perverted sense of what happened. In the world of the Victoria Advocate, Dr. Pigott is deranged but it just happpened and it wasn't a corrupt system that attacked her for almost a decade that made her deranged.

  • There are three Pigott sons that I pray for. My heart goes out to this family that has been wrecked by tragedy.

  • Now there's a few words I'm not used to seeing in the same sentence in the VA......DA and prosecuted..of course it IS the Wharton County ADA, not Victoria. =)

    August 27, 2009 at 11:12 p.m.
  • what a messed up story

    August 27, 2009 at 10:38 p.m.
  • can someone remind me what was the outcome of Mr. Pigott's death?

so she is in the wharton co. jailhouse right?

    August 27, 2009 at 10:18 p.m.
  • This is a tragic matter. So many times altered mental status of persons whom at least on the outside seem competent and capable goes unchallenged. A person does not go from a parent, spouse, and businessperson to these type of behaviors without a psychological collapse. Hopefully while incarcerated she receives treatment as she has family whom I am sure want her better.
