FLATONIA - The Flatonia Bulldogs rolled to a 27-0 victory over the Nixon-Smiley Mustangs in the season opener for both teams.

Flatonia's Evan Hajdik opened the scoring with a one-yard run in the first quarter, and the Bulldogs never looked back.

"It was just a good all-around game," Flatonia coach Shawn Bruns said. "We played strong defense, and the kids ran the ball well for three quarters. We bogged down a bit in the fourth quarter."

Bulldogs senior Alex Hernandez, who led all rushers with 110 yards, had a strong game, Bruns said. However, three other backs - Dallas Ponder, Holden Farek and Evan Hajdik - had a lot of carries as well, he added.

Hernandez was a backup the past couple of seasons, Bruns said, but "he's going to get the ball a lot more this year."
