Schulenburg 36, Shiner 35 OT

SCHULENBURG - In a heartbreaking overtime loss, the Shiner Comanches fell to the Schulenburg Shorthorns 36-35.

Schulenburg led 14-7 in the first half, scoring on a 1-yard by Kyle Bludau and a 4-yard run by David Houston.

Shiner's score came on a run of 15 yards by Josh Greathouse.

Shiner came back in the third quarter, tying the game when quarterback Drew Stafford punched it in from one yard out.

The Shorthorns took a 21-14 lead late in the third quarter on a 1-yard rush from Houston.

The Comanche offense revved up in the fourth. Josh Greathouse tied the game again when he hit Evel Jones on a 61-yard scoring pass.

Schulenburg again took the lead on a 9-yard passing play from Kyle Bludau to Kacy Mayberry.

But Shiner came back 19 seconds later when Kurtis Shields ran 80 yards from scrimmage, tying the game at 28 all. Shileds finished the night with 161 yards rushing on 14 carries.

The game was forced into overtime when the Comanche's Stafford, who had been perfect all night, missed a 33-yard field goal with one second left.

Things looked brighter for Shiner when the team scored first in overtime on a one-yard run by Greathouse. Stafford made the extra point for a 35-28 lead.

But the Shorthorns weren't done. Bludau was able to find Mayberry again for a 10-yard pass. But Bludau's biggest play came on the two-point conversion, giving Schulenburg the win. Bludau threw for 156 yards and no interceptions.
