Cleaning up some of the major highways would help. Keep the billboards up to date.

Roberta Lumpkins, homemaker, Victoria

Get rid of all the gang graffiti in Victoria.

Eileen Robinson, cashier, Victoria

More for them to do. We need to attract more businesses first and that will attract tourists.

Janet Huse, purchasing agent, Victoria

"Build a waterpark. It's a very popular attraction."

Terry Green, Edna, nuclear operator

  • Okay the park is alright don't get me wrong, but most people who don't have children have to think of something to do if the volleyball or disk golf is taken up. and.. what did happen to the Zoo I thought it was going to be expanded or something, now I would actually put my money into a project like that. The kids and teenagers really don't have anything to do like the movies really is too expensive for them. I mean this is a growing town put the prices our almost close to those of a really big city. If we could have a theme park I don't think the city would build it because they would come up with the excuse, that they wouldn't know where to build it or how to fund it.. but yet how much did they put into the sidewalks? and yet I can't drive through my own neiborhood street without worrying about all of the bumps and potholes.I think they should build a theatre for band concerts, because they go to corpus all the time and it's not much bigger than we are and have you seen their venue im sure we could do better and that would rake in all the money everyone is fussing about.

  • Ken,
We know it’s called Cultural Heritage Tourism and Victoria could benefit from it.

  • Anything in this city that does not comply with the "old school" way of thinking will be shot down by the current "Board". There needs to be a family theme here to give the kids something to do. I have a teenage daughter who just wants to go to Houston with her friends because there is nothing for the kids to do here, "in their eyes anyway".

  • Come on now! Think about all of the good Clubs we have here! Club Kaliente, The Hide Away, Maximus, etc... You do not think those fine establishments bring in the big bucks?

  • This is Victoria we’re talkig about. All we have is Historical and Cultural Tourism prospects.

Anyone out there for promoting our rich Mexican and Spanish Legacy?

  • An affordable theme activity(something that has an already large established following; along the loop or interstate Highway.

Nothing should be built anywhere else, its about location, location, location. Victoria needs something that brings money in, not just recycles it.

The areas around the Guadalupe floods anyway; isn't it time to consider creating huge lake front property in those areas. I'm not talking about another "blue waters", but a few large open spacious waterfront areas; plenty of room for multiple water activities.

This should be discussed with professional boating and fishing organizations; in order to secure event gaurantee's year round. Basically build it according to their specifications and cost. Their hosted events and television broadcast from Victoria's lakes will attract people, duh!

A "large rodeo complex" near a "horse racing track" wouldn't be a bad thing, near the airport along the loop.

I would contact local ranchers in the area to see if there is support and to recruit outsiders to attend. If ample support exist, then contact professional rodeo associations and racing farms; to see if real commitments could be garnered.

You could have two major events on opposite sides of town at the same time, this along with adequate highway access, lodging, and food venue is not a bad start.

I am still promoting gambling, but one thing at a time.

These two things should bring 10's of millions into the area easily; I've not crunched the numbers, and don't get paid for this.

If you get signed commitments, from professional organizations to operate and televise from these areas if built; tourist dollars will come.

Everyone likes to make money and have the support of others to do it; they make money and Victoria makes money. Get signed contract commitments, to host fuctions whose event revenues, equal more than investment into community developement projects to host these events.

    No biggie.

  • How about an indoor multi-use rodeo complex. add it on to the existing community center. Rodeo is a multi million dollar business that attracts many. Small towns such as edna, gonzales, and halletesvile have adopted this idea, (their complexes are full just about every wknd). Give the community center a face lift, and attract big name musicians to come back to victoria. the new high schools and new baseball park are prime examples are poor planning and wasteful spending.

  • I recommend "exporting" a certain poster to other locales in order to....never mind...maybe a upgrade at the zoo exhibits would be in order.

Victoria is no "tourist town" by a long shot, and likely never will be. We are the "Crossroads", a stop for fuel and food, "fly over" country, an ugly little place in the middle of the Texas coast. Having lived in several tourist towns, I can assure you there are major drawbacks to having hoards of out-of-towners take over your place on weekends (exhibit one: New Braunfels). Accept our place here as a blue-color, working mans town.

As for Riverside, I would up the funding the Zoo with tax dollars (and I'm not much on spending your money), trim up the trees and get rid of the barricades, modernize the ball park, fix the g-d roads into the park, and add police to run off the trash. I'm not interested in adding tourists, just making Riverside a place that Victorians can enjoy.

As for the Golf Course, it is the only thing reasonably well kept in the park. If some "golf snob" isn't happy with the other options in Victoria, let him/her drive to Austin/SA/SA to play. We are better off with out them.

Downtown is lovely during the weekends. Any thought to establishing a small "entertainment district" to similiar to places like Beaumont? Not for others, but for us. Celebrating our history, as Alton suggests, could be our theme. But leave out the casino/floor shows. By the time Victoria would get them, even Ganado would have them.

Make Victoria nice for Victorians. Not for tourists.

  • Guys.....our Riverside Golf Course will never be attraction for tourists, unless we tear it up and start over. You need to put your clubs in the trunk and drive 100 miles. You'll find a real course. It is a decent public course-but that is it.

We need something novel. Something we don't currently have in Victoria. I wish I had that idea.

  • Victoria needs a SOUL.

  • people get butt hurt everyday, at least they'd be getting butt hurt for a great local lake :)

i also agree, free up the land for Riverside GC to build another holes.

  • promote everything outdoors in this area.

dam up the river around cuero and create a wonderful lake

  • With so many vacant buildings in Victoria and the competition for tourist dollars from other major cities, Victoria will be on the bottom of the list for most tourists. And drawing people for conventions will require unique fun pleasure entertainment, good reliable transportation system, or a means to walk to entertainment events.
A Casino with floorshows would help for year around tourist dollars. The floorshows do not have to be big named individuals, they just have to be good. Maybe a strong Hispanic theme of music, salsa dancing, mariachi bands, and Mexican Hat Dance would have a large draw.
