The 62nd annual U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program provides area residents one of many opportunities to provide gifts for less fortunate children this holiday season.

Donation opportunities also include the Victoria Police Department's Blue Santa and other county or city run programs.

Last year about 2,000 children in the Crossroads area received gifts through the Victoria Toys for Tots program.

Friday is the deadline to apply to receive toys through the Victoria Blue Santa. Applications are available at the Victoria Police Department Records Division at city hall or at the Victoria Mall police substation. Applications also may be e-mailed, by sending your request to bluesantaofvictoria@yahoo.com.

Applicants must live within the city limits of Victoria. Children up to age 15 are eligible for assistance.

Donations will be accepted through Dec. 18. Blue Santa donation locations include:

Dollar General, 1608 N. Navarro St.

Bealls, 2504 N. Laurent St.

Victoria Police Department substation, Victoria Mall

Fallas, 5217 N. Navarro St.

Memorial High School senior campus

  • I love the Toys for Tots charity. It's one of my favorites! OK, the Marines in uniform make it all the more Merry to donate ;} J/K... I donate regardless. This truly is a wonderful charity and I hope they get many things for our little one's. After all that is what Christmas is all about. Seeing smiles on those precious faces.
