  • ESTER LEE LITTLES' FAMILY

    21 Great-grandchildren

    19 Grandchildren

    7 sons

    3 daughters

There were 40 grandchildren and great grandchildren of 81-year-old Ester Lee Littles who traveled to Goliad's community center for their annual Christmas party Friday.

The Littles' family tradition began more than 59 years ago. Daughter Kathryn McDow recalls being part of that tradition since she was born.

"We just love being around each other," said McDow, the third eldest of Littles' ten children.

Kathryn's daughter, LaTonya McDow, remembers going to her aunties', uncles' or grandma's home.

"I look forward to it all the time," LaTonya said.

However, the family has grown and LaTonya now brings her 4-year-old son, Hezekiah McDow, one of Little's great-grandsons.

"Since our family has grown, we rent the center," LaTonya said.

The center has been home to their Christmas get together for the past two years.

Families arrive from San Antonio, Port Lavaca, Houston and Austin.

"We come down here because our family is so large," said Cassandra Cullivan, one of Littles' grandchildren. "It's worth the 2 1/2 hour drive."

Great-grandchild Kayla Thompson, 8, of San Antonio, said she enjoys eating and having fun with the whole family.

The extended family will play cards, dominos and horseshoes, not leaving until dark.

"It's all about having fun," said Thompson.

The experience of it all is what keeps Cullivan coming back.

"I look forward to it, seeing my auntie, uncle, cousins and the food," said Cullivan.

Each family member takes a different plate to the party, ranging from various meats to desserts.

"The cabbage was my favorite," said Thompson.

Cullivan's son, Cameron Cullivan, 12, said he enjoys the family tradition.

"I like to open presents and come down here," Cameron said.
