I support a statewide smoking ban as long as they have a statewide drinking ban. I am more offended by a drunk than by a smoker. I don't recall reading or hearing about a stabbing or shooting caused by someone intoxicated by cigarettes. Unfortunately, I can't say the same thing about alcohol.

I agree with Mr. Armstrong on a statewide smoking ban - but not in bars. When you go out to a bar, you go out to drink and smoke and just let it all hang out. Why don't they shut down the companies that make cigarettes if it causes cancer?

I don't smoke, but I don't think that they should pass a smoking ban statewide. Because they are still going to smoke and it would just raise the price of cigarettes.

Although I have been a nonsmoker for the past 29 years, excepting a few occasional puffs, I vehemently oppose such an absurdity as a statewide smoking ban. Of course, have nonsmoking areas, but a universal Texas non-tobacco-inhaling prohibition? How foolish can we get? Next, do away with french fries, which just might be more dangerous.

I have been reading about the postmaster crying and complaining again about being short on money and people not using the post office. Well I guess not. I mailed a package to my granddaughter in Houston on Monday morning. This is Friday and she still hasn't received it. If I would have sent it by UPS, it would have cost me $1 more, but she would have received it Tuesday.

A statewide smoking ban? Sure, but include all alcoholic drinks and their secondhand damage.

  • I'm with both of you. The only thing I'm wondering about is if they put a state ban on smoking...that sure is going to put a crunch on that state child healthcare now isn't it.

If that happened then who would they put sin taxes on...how about anything containing sugar...lot's of health problems in children from diabetes and being overweight.

How about a sin tax on alcohol...that certainly is proven to be harmful to children, physically and emotionally.

One of my personal favorites is how about a sin tax on video games...after all kids who sit like zoned out zombies in front of the TV or computer playing games all the time instead of getting out in the "smoke free" clean air and sunshine...aren't getting the required exercise that children need to be fit and healthy.

Like any of those will ever fly...anyway...go ahead and tax the smokers....and then SHUT UP YOUR WHINING ABOUT SMOKERS.

  • Amen Suzy! Now that they have raised taxes on tobacco to over $1 a pack to support childrens health insurance, I no longer wish to here about how offensive my smoking is. If you don't like it, pay for your own kids health insurance!! I do.

  • If Texas imposes a statewide smoking ban, Texas should not be able to sell the products either. Let them do without the tax money that is made off of tobacco, so the rest of the fine, upstanding, holier-than-thou citizens will have to start paying their fair share of taxes.
