More tragic and near-tragic accidents struck our area over the Christmas weekend, and since several of them involved children, they are the types of accidents that can lead to finger-pointing and blaming.

When a young life ends, or a young person is injured, we all feel the sadness of future potential that suddenly is halted.

And we search, with broken hearts, for somebody who is responsible for the loss.

But we believe it would be almost as tragic as the accidents themselves to go about pointing the bony fingers of judgment. Quite often, the people we blame are the ones most terribly affected by these tragedies.

Accidents are just that - terrible, terrible accidents.

Certainly, it can be said when death or injury involves a young person that mistakes were made. That's what they call a no-brainer.

But again, we must remember that they loved the victims, too, and they need to be helped past the grief they're feeling, not condemned for something they did not deliberately bring about.

God bless the victims, and may He also shower comfort on those whose errors may have brought about tragedies, showering them with the spirit of love and forgiveness.

  • It is nice to read an article that has truth, especially when it is not human nature to love and forgive someone following a tragedy. The VA for the second time in less than ten days has given credit to Jesus and asked for blessings from God in two editorials. I commend you for the acknowledgement of our Creator who preached love and forgiveness.

  • This is very touching and it is what needed to be said. No one deserves to suffer any loss as that of a child but life happens and we do not know from day to day when or where we will last see any loved ones. Live life to its fullest and let the judgment be with a higher power. Do not pour salt in freshly cut wounds, that is what hurts the most. My prayers go out the the families of all these victims. Yes they are all victims of a terrible accident. They are all scared from it and the family that lost a child will never be whole again. Bless all...

  • We are all, only human and we all fall victim to err. If the accidents have been investigated, and is proven to be an accident. Then there is no reason to go about throwing blame and pointing fingers. When a young life does end or a young person is hurt,,we do all feel the pain. But there are, and always have been, those who cannot live their lives without going around pointing bony fingers. We must deal with these individuals and take their blaming with a grain of salt. I praise the Advocates editorial board for this article, for it is so true, that the ones that many people blame, are the ones that will be affected by these accidents for their entire lives. May the Holy comforter bring peace to those affected by these accidents. Judge ye not,,Lest ye be judged also
