Editor, the Advocate:
Re: Vintage Victoria Volumes 1 and 2.
As a fifth-generation Texan and third-generation Victorian, I applaud the Advocate's effort to keep Victoria's history in the public domain. Unfortunately, both volumes fall short. Simply "book marking" Victoria's history with randomly submitted pictures that fit within decades does not tell the story.
The seminal work on Victoria and Victoria County was published in 1953 by Morris Roberts. "Pictorial History of Victoria County" is filled with well-designed historical narrative and chock full of wonderful photographs, cattlemen brands, the trail drivers of Victoria County and the beauties of Victoria County. Does anyone at the Advocate know, or remember, that Victoria County has a flag that was designed in 1936 to commemorate the 112th anniversary of Martin De Leon's founding of Victoria in 1824. The flag was designed by Mr. Morris Roberts and painted by Sister M. Fidela "Of Nazareth Convent." Please allow history to teach you how to preserve it when composing your next volume.
