Victoria police and the fire department spent most of Monday afternoon investigating a possible meth lab at 4813 Dahlia Lane.

To protect residents, barricades were set up near Juniper and Evergreen streets, said O.C. Garza, city spokesman.

As of 5 p.m., police said there was no evidence of an active meth lab and no active threat to the neighborhood, but they would continue to investigate, Garza said.

The investigation started at 2 p.m. when police received a 911 call warning of a possible meth lab in operation at that home. The caller smelled ammonia coming from the house, Garza said.

Police first detained five men, who are in their early 20s, inside the home. After a lengthy search, police found a sixth man hiding in the attic. The sixth man had drugs, Garza said.

Police are questioning the six men.

Neighborhood residents, meanwhile, were advised to stay inside their homes until the investigation was over. Several drivers had to divert from their usual routes home. Gina Wilson, 47, was driving her children home from school when she neared the barricades and flashing lights.

"This is just crazy," she said. "You don't expect to run into something like this on your way home. I'm just glad everything seems to be OK."

  • Yes Princess...you are right! Not everyone at that house were meth cooks or users. The only ones in there that weren't any of these were the police and the firefighters who got called out there! They have apparently been a menace for the neighborhood for a long time....you know, kinda like when you have an itch on your rear, but can't quite seem to scratch it!

  • you people dont even know everyone in that house. just because there was one guy who isnt that great of a person it doesnt mean that they're all like that.i happen to know those people and they are some of the greatest people i ever met.the whole CPS comment you dont know anything about that.dont judge the entire family for one member's mistake.thats total BS.

  • I just can't logged off without commenting to crazyman...They don't cause problems? Obviously, they do! Why would all these people be so concerned? And you think smoking weed everyday is normal! What did the guy in the car do, get too stoned and forget to walk inside?

  • I agree with bobbym, the stench was probably coming from the dude in the car! I'm off today, I think I'm gonna drive over there and honk at him! And I bet his lady friend is a real prize too!

  • these kids were up late many nights a week, I guess they didn't have jobs to go to in the morning. there were young children living in the house that has a verbally abusive young mother. thats a shame

  • Crazyman how can you say that those people DO NOT cause problems for our neighborhood. There are young children in that neighborhood along with some elderly and they shouldn't have to put up with punks like that. Also if you are going to live in a car do it somewhere else not on a street where there is a school bus drop off and pick up less than a block away.

  • crazyman. Which fine university did you graduate from? Ivy League? Stanford? A person with your smarts needs to be put in a position to benefit society. Perhaps a cabinet post in the new administration.

  • sorry but not everyone does drugs or drinks or smokes. Some of us work and make a good wholesome life. How can anyone defended drug users? Let it be weed or meth. It's against the law and they need to be made responsible. Laws are there for a reason. Its sad when a person sees there is nothing wrong with that. Plus those people do cause problems all the time and they have had the police over there several times a week. One of them attacked and terrorized the neighbors. I hope they see the error of their ways and change. Crazyman do you hang out with those people is that why your defending their behavior?

  • The problem is if they were actually cooking meth in that house, the house is now unlivable. That stuff stays around....worse than the bad mold.

    January 5, 2009 at 11:10 p.m.
  • The news reported that they found a man in the attic and he had drugs on him and was arrested. So maybe they stopped it before it started I hope.....

  • that odor of ammonia was from the guy living in the car. hasn't got the water hooked up yet.

  • NEWS UPDATE!!!! The CORRECT ADDRESS IS 4813!!! NOT 4803 OR 4809!!

    January 5, 2009 at 8:49 p.m.
  • Yeah the dude lived in that car for a week or longer maybe closer to 2 weeks and the last few days he had a female room mate in the car with him. It really freaked me out that any woman would find living in a car with a man that does not work but sits in that car all day a catch. eewwww...yes they do treat the whole neighborhood badly.

  • This is the wrong address. My in-laws live on that street and the correct address is 4809 not 4803.

    Thanks,

  • I live a street down and those guys that live in that house are nothing but trouble. They love to aggravate neighbors and my dog and have yelling matches in the street. The police and a fire truck were still there until just a few minutes ago. I've seen the cops two days prior to this there because of those people living in that car. I hope something is done because this is a good neighborhood.

  • There has been many calls made to 911 about that house and the strange behavior one the occupants. As early as last week the police had been to that house. The entire neighborhood has got to the point that no one even attempts to call the police because nothing is ever done. Recently someone had been living in a car parked next to that house and the only thing that was done is the car got tagged and the occupants of the house pushed the car into the driveway to get it off the street. One young man that stays at that house was going into cars in the neighborhood and taking things, then threatened his neighbors but nothing was ever done about it. Guess it takes something this serious for the police to take the problem serious. Sad.
