Editor, the Advocate:
I'm a student at Memorial High School Senior Campus. I'm concerned about the certain amount of restroom passes the teachers give students. I think that we shouldn't get a certain amount of passes because some kids tend to need to go more than others, either because they have a problem or play sports and have to drink lots of water. Teachers can, more than likely, tell whether a student is lying or really needs to go.

Drinking a lot of latte?
Quit drinking latte!
January 6, 2009 at 7:55 a.m.There are many people who 'suddenly' have bladder infections....meaning the infection can be brewing, but all of a sudden you start having the symptoms....like the urgency feeling, the feeling of not completely emptying your bladder, etc. Those who have experienced one, know what I'm talking about. A lot of kids drink coffee or latte before school....Some kids just gotta go! And that 4 or 5 minutes between classes is just enough time to get from one classroom to another, much less use the restroom!
January 5, 2009 at 11:55 p.m.How awful.
January 5, 2009 at 11:28 p.m.Girls kind of catch the worst of this situation. Breaks between classes are not long enough most of the time to accommodate all girls that need to go. Girls take longer in the restrooms for obvious reasons and they have to use the stalls everytime. Girls also need to go for "other" reasons. I remember one time a teacher wouldn't let a girl go until after class, and lets just say, it was an embarrassment for everyone.
January 5, 2009 at 11:05 p.m.Two restroom passes per semester. Period. If you gotta go more often because of a medical condition, no problem. Get a note from the doctor. Problem solved.
If you don't have a note and you REALLY REALLY gotta go, you can stay after class for five (or ten, fifteen, whatever) minutes, if you really think it's worth the time spent.
January 5, 2009 at 10:52 p.m.This reminds me of a certain (beloved) teacher I had in high school. It seemed that 9 times out of 10, it was the girls who HAD to go in the middle of class. He started calling them "1 cc bladders" and that made them so embarrassed that they miraculously cut down on trips and still survived without the janitor having to be called to mop up the classroom floor.
I remember there were MANY boyfriend-girlfriend couples who would designate a certain time to "meet" by the lockers or the bathrooms to snatch a quick kiss when they appeared to "just run into each other" when they took their bathroom breaks. How would I know? I'll never tell!!! :)
Ahhh, those were the days.
January 5, 2009 at 7:34 p.m.Kids have always used the "gotta go" to get out of class or if they are bored, however, how can anyone say "no". I for one am one of those who have to go really often.
When I was in school and someone was "having to go" more often than seemed reasonable.....more than one time in a 50 minutes class....if it was a boy, the principal would come and accompany him on the second trip; if it was a girl, the principal's secretary would accompany them to the bathroom....this put a fast stop to the made up emergencies, however, the people who really needed to go were allowed. Of course I am sure that school staff would not go to this much trouble now days.
January 5, 2009 at 12:46 p.m.Hey,,,When you gotta go,,,you gotta go. And Yes some do need to go more than others. I feel that if a person needs to use the restroom,,,,then Use it. What right does a teacher have telling you When you Can and Cannot use the restroom?....Are they in control of the bladders of students also. If you gotta go,,,,GO
