Parke Greeson doesn't need to worry about what he's going to wear at rodeos this year.
Greeson, a junior at St. Joseph, was selected to the Wrangler High School all-star rodeo team for the second consecutive year and will be sponsored by the apparel company.
"I've put a lot of effort into it, so it feels good to be selected," Greeson said. "I've been an all-star for two years, so it's a pretty good deal."
With his selection to the team, Greeson and the other all-stars will be provided apparel with the Wrangler Twenty X shirts with the team logo and two pairs of competition jeans.
The all-star selection came through his performances last year, but Greeson has been competing well ever since he was a freshman. He won the state title in boys cutting, but fell short of a title as a sophomore. Still, he had a good enough year to be honored by Wrangler and is expecting good things this year at state in Abilene.
"If you win your region you're selected to be an all-star," Greeson said. "It's just a group that is kind of the best of the best from the regions."
Greeson continues to travel across the state to compete, including making a trip to Hallettsville this weekend for a cutting competition. He competes in boys cutting, calf-roping and is partnered with Goliad's Colby May in the team roping event. Greeson does not participate in other sports, but says his schedule is booked with school and rodeos.
"It's just what I love to do and what I've done for a lot of my life," said Greeson of living the rodeo lifestyle. "It's what I fell into and I'm enjoying it. I practice pretty much every day. If I'm not out at my ranch (in Goliad) I'm here in Victoria roping a dummy and practicing."
The National High School rodeo began in 1947 with a single rodeo in Hallettsville, but now has over 10,000 members who compete in 1,250 rodeos in 41 states as well as five in Canada and in Australia.
Wrangler also has a Champion Pro Rodeo team, which includes the top rodeo performers like Trevor Brazile, Victoria's Joe Beaver and Dan Mortensen.
