The Palacios Sharkettes won the Palacios Sharkettes Invitational Basketball Tournament on Tuesday, Dec. 30. The Louise Lady Hornets took second place, and the Van Vleck Lady Leopards took third place. The Sharkettes won the tournament with wins over Bloomington, Danbury, West Columbia and Van Vleck and now have an 11-6 record. Christen Sandoval was named the tournament’s MVP. The all-tournament team members were Nydia Aguirre from Bloomington, Mandy Strebeck from Danbury, Katie Brown from Louise, Aaliha Ward from West Columbia and Andrea Floyd from Van Vleck. “It was a great tourney for us to get back in the groove of things,” said Palacios Sharkettes head coach Aaron Wollam. “The kids played great defense and we are shooting the ball well. Hopefully we are starting to peak at the right time with district starting next week.” The Sharkettes stayed undefeated in the tournament to win the trophy with a 56-38 win over the Van Vleck Leopards on Tuesday, Dec. 30. Palacios led at the half 31- 20 and out scored the Lady Leopards 25-18 in the second half for the win. Sandoval led the Sharkettes in scoring 32 points followed by Clarissa Puentes with 19 points. Jona Griffin led Van Vleck in Scoring with 19 points.
