Schlumberger hasn't yet released information on where in the country job cuts will take place.
"We are reducing our North America totals by up to 1,000," Stephen Harris, spokesman in Houston, said.
More specific information will come at a later date.

Take care Ernie,
January 10, 2009 at 9:14 p.m.Glad to see you kept you job, I lost mine in 80's old oil field, but sad to see you had to move to keep it. Knew many that had to leave back then, many to other type jobs to do what they had to do.
I know you will eat well over there. Had much of the good Cajun cooking traveling over that way catching the boats and choppers out to the Gulf.
My plant picked up production some this week. Don't know how long it will last.
ernie- the bridges and overpasses are ugly and rough! At least you have a casino on the east side.
January 10, 2009 at 6:41 p.m.best wishes to you there.
try the seafood place in spearsville, la at least once (only open three nights a week)
beautiful part of the country, but the people are 'different' (la/arky border, southern arky)
January 10, 2009 at 1:03 p.m.It is my understanding that another round of RIF cuts occurred yesterday for SLB in N. America. I have yet to hear the extent of those cuts but as far as I was able to determine, no more of the Victoria employees were directly affected.
Yes, Julie and I have been affected. We will be leaving in the morning for my new post in Bossier City LA. We had planned to retire here in Victoria but, alas, it was not to be. So goes life.
I suppose our leaving will have a minute affect on Victoria as our arrival will affect Bossier City. Some might suggest that our move will significantly improve the average IQ in both places. :-)
Life does go on... but we will surely miss Victoria.
Ernie
January 10, 2009 at 11:46 a.m.The definition of "irony"....Schlumberger cutting employees because there is no drilling going on when our country needs to utilize its oil resources now more than ever in our history!! Amazing!!1
January 9, 2009 at 7:43 p.m.I hope everyone makes it through this the best possible.
People in this town are going to be shocked at the cuts local chem plants are about to make. I believe one plant for sure will be shut with a second one having a 50/50 chance of being mothballed.
Dark times.
January 9, 2009 at 7:25 p.m.Just ask Ernie.
January 9, 2009 at 6:57 p.m.They closed their facility on the Loop back in November. Those cuts have already impacted Victoria.
