KINGSVILLE - Garett Manning tied a Valero Cactus Bowl record Friday night with seven catches.

Manning, a Hallettsville graduate who played at Henderson State, accumulated 122 yards for the East team, which dropped a 28-27 decision to the West.

The NCAA Division II all-star game was played before an estimated crowd of 6,000 at Javelina Stadium.

Kansas hires Miller

LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Kansas Jayhawks have hired veteran Bill Miller to be their linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator.

Miller is a Hutchinson native who spent the 2008 season as linebackers coach for Louiville and was promoted to defensive coordinator there.
