No quorum being present last night, the meeting of the City Council was postponed until tomorrow night.

Miss Dora Diesbach was the charming hostess of the Girls' High Five Club recently and the bright welcome with which she greeted each guest on their arrival went far towards making the afternoon a most pleasant one.

Coach V. A. Adams' Victoria Junior College cagers anxiously await the referees whistle to start their opening game of the season tonight with the Texas Dental College of Houston. Adams has a flock of men who will see service, including one team of six-footers. Shepherd Pennington, Mays, Sisson and Corder likely will make up this group.

Mrs. V. L. Griffin was hostess yesterday afternoon in her home to the members of her bridge club. Table prizes were won by Mesdames William Offer, Clarence Goldman, J. F. Story and Miss Wilma Elliott.

Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Raven and Bill Rave of San Angelio are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Schustereit and friends.

Point Comfort: A milestone in Calhoun County industrial history will be reached today when the first shipments of Bauxite - the ore from which aluminum is made - begins arriving by barge at Alcoa's Point Comfort alumina refining plant. The Bauxite, coming from Suriname, South America, is being transferred from the ore carrier Avery C. Adams to barges at Alcoa's temporary transfer station at Port Aransas.

Victoria police turned the tables on crime in 1983, with reductions from 1982 record highs set in Class I (major offense) crimes and calls for police assistance, and in six of the seven Class I categories, according to statistics released Wednesday by Police Chief Kenneth Rosenquest. Three of the reductions came in categories in which record highs had been set in 1982. However, a recorded high was tabulated in the only category showing an increase in activity from 1982.
