Most neighbors found it hard to refuse these Girl Scouts' smiles and laughter.

Eight-year-old Stormy Monney and her 7-year-old sister, Cumorah, took turns charming their neighbors on East Rosebud Avenue for the first day of cookie-selling season on Saturday.

"Hello, my name is Cumorah and I'm selling Girl Scout cookies," the Brownie said, grinning wide at the tall adult.

The girls decided to use their talents to guilt the neighbors (who already knew them) into buying.

Michael Ordonez, 45, always buys from the sisters and actually seeks them out while they man the booth in front of Wal-Mart.

"They're good kids," he said, smiling and signing the order form.

He bought four boxes, which he expects his two teenaged sons to eat in one day. The girls jumped and clapped in excitement and skipped to their next sale.

The next neighbor proved just as easy to solicit - a pregnant woman. Stormy knocked and gave her the pitch.

"Girl Scout cookies? Those are hard to say no to, aren't they?" said 31-year-old Shanna Stowe, who is six months pregnant. "Especially when I'm big and pregnant. I would love to!"

Her husband, Matt, bought two boxes of Thin Mints to put in the freezer, but added they usually only last about a day.

The girls are taking orders for cookies that will be delivered in February, mom Bryce Monney explained.

Stowe asked what the girls would do with the money. Troop 5113 out of Smith Elementary hasn't yet decided between Splashtown or Fiesta Texas, said mom Monney, who is the troop leader for 14 girls. That means each girl needs to raise $100.

While each sister said they would like to sell 1,000 boxes for the top prize, Monney expects them to sell between 200 and 300. She just enjoys seeing her girls' accomplishments.

"I just like it when they can meet their own personal goals," Monney said.

Stormy, a Smith third-grader, agrees the Girl Scouts mold her into a better person, but really loves spending time with mom. Cumorah just likes reaping the rewards of her labor, like having fun camping and eating s'mores.

The strong winds on Saturday helped the girls gain sympathy from some neighbors, who invited the adorable sisters inside. For most neighbors, the cookies sell themselves.

"They're a good quality," said 75-year-old Danny Hoad, who let the girls warm up.

He likes to eat the peanut butter Do-si-Dos with a banana, or dips the shortbread Trefoils in coffee. Hoad's daughter, Daina Grace, grew up as a Girl Scout, so the family has been eating the cookies for decades.

Grace was visiting her parents when the sisters came and ended up buying six boxes herself. She likes making other desserts with the cookies, like smashing the Thin Mints into malt shakes.

"I am addicted to the Trefoils," Grace said, tallying the order form.

The girls showed off their favorite cookies - the coconut caramel Samoas, but most neighbors on the street preferred the classics.

The next few houses shook their heads and rejected the cookies, but the sisters didn't get discouraged. The energetic beanie-headed girls just ran to the next door.

One man joked he would buy cookies if the girls finished raking his leaves. While he went to review the order form, the girls did just that, piling leaves into the trash bins in the yard.

"Naw, I'm kidding, girls!" he yelled. "You don't have to do that."

But it worked. He ended up buying two boxes.
