Memorial's Tabby Zella could barely stand and Korey Schroeder was tired of just standing around.
The two were both excited though as the teammates had just finished celebrating a VISD Crossroads Soccer Tournament championship at Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
"I'm kind of swaying back and forth," said Zella who scored both of Memorial's goals in a 2-1 championship win over Houston St. Agnes. "I don't really feel like myself I'm so tired."
Zella and the Memorial offense possessed the ball throughout the game, giving Schroeder plenty of time to relax in goal for the Lady Vipers.
"My team did a great job," said Schroeder who faced only four shots in the entire game. "We played really good defensive soccer this whole tournament. There were a few shots on me here and there, but I really didn't have to do much."
Memorial finished the game with 21 shots on the St. Agnes goal, and lead 2-1 at halftime before both teams went scoreless in the final 40 minutes.
Zella, who was named the tournament's offensive MVP, scored the game's opening goal in the eighth minute of the first half and the second goal eight minutes later.
"It's kind of weird because I hardly ever score," Zella said. "I wouldn't have been able to if I didn't get passes from my teammates to put me in position. It just happened that I was the last one at the end of our passes."
St. Agnes' Annie Goodyear scored the only goal for the Tigers.
Memorial (4-0) reached the championship with a 2-1 win over Flour Bluff in its first game of the day. Jessica Mickey and Tina Montelongo scored the goals for the Lady Vipers who put 17 shots on goal.
Schroeder faced 15 shots, saving all but one. Jade Payne was named to the all-tournament team for the Lady Vipers.
Memorial returns to tournament action on Thursday with a trip to Round Rock.
"This tournament was huge for us," McCarter said. "Winning the tournament was goal that they set and they accomplished it. Every girl on this team worked hard and we couldn't have done it without all of them."
St. Joseph finished the tournament with a 1-3 record after falling 2-1 to Lockhart on Saturday. Sarah Tucker scored the Lady Flyers goal as the team fell to 1-6 on the season.
