GONZALES - The search for a man charged with murder in the shooting death of a Gonzales woman ended around 9:30 p.m. Saturday, according to a press release by the Gonzales County Sheriff's Office.

Law enforcement officials arrested Jarett W. Eldridge, 29, near Luling in Guadalupe County on Saturday on a warrant for the murder of 55-year-old Janice K. Trent, according to the press release.

The Gonzales County Sheriff's Office received a call around 3 a.m. Saturday, saying there had been multiple shots fired in a residence nearby. The residence was "located in a rural area of Gonzales County," according to the report.

Janice Trent was pronounced dead on the scene. Two others were also injured in the shooting. Allyson Trent, 32, and a girl suffered from gunshot wounds and were taken to the Gonzales Memorial Hospital before being transferred to hospitals in Austin, where both are in stable condition, according to the press release.

The Gonzales County Sheriff's Office, the Texas Rangers and the 25th Judicial District Attorney's Investigator examined the residence, which led the sheriff's office to issue a murder warrant for Eldridge on Saturday.

The sheriff's office did not provide a possible motive for the shooting as of press time Sunday.

Additional details will not be released until the investigation is complete, according to the report.

  • Life is about choices. This person is not a victim, he is an accused MURDERER! He chose to do meth, he chose to continue to do meth, he chose to kill. Bottom line. Hopefully, he will enjoy the cocktail which will surely be injected into his veins....
