For first time college student Clarissa McMullen, 17, registering at Victoria College was easier than she thought.
She had pictured long lines and not being able to make the perfect schedule, but for the incoming freshman registration turned out to be no problem.
"Registering was actually quite easy," she said. "I thought it would have taken longer and be a lot harder."
She received her general education development certificate in the fall and decided attending college would be the next step.
"My sisters never finished college and I know this is something that would make my grandmother proud," Clarissa said.
VC has changed a step in the registration process by allowing all students to register on any of the available days.
"We used to designate days for students to register depending on their last name," Patsy Freeman, VC director of counseling services, said. "But we feel this way will be easier on students and staff."
Students can contact College Central with any questions about registration, Freeman said.
"It's like a one stop shop," she said. "Any questions students may have about financial aid or classes can be answered."
Students are encouraged to register early so they will have a better chance at receiving a schedule they like, Freeman said.
"The longer students wait the harder it is for them to get the schedule they want," she said.
Clarissa, who registered early, is set begin her studies in the spring semester. She is looking to the future and graduating from the University of Houston-Victoria.
"I want to graduate from UHV because it's close to home and they offer the degree I want," said Clarissa, who plans to earn a psychology degree.
Like VC, UHV is also conducting spring registration. Courses in the schools of Arts & Sciences, Business Administration, Education & Human Development and Nursing are being offered.
Both online and face to face classes are offered at UHV, Paula Cobler, communication director for UHV, said.
Classes for the spring semester resume Jan. 20 at both VC and UHV.
