The school of business administration for the University of Houston-Victoria announced its new dean Wednesday.
Farhang Niroomand, 55, will replace Charles Bullock, who accepted a position in June as vice chancellor of academic affairs at Chapman University College in Orange, Calif.
Jifu Wang, interim dean, will resume his position as management and marketing department chairman of the SoBA on July 1 when Niroomand begins, Suzanne LaBrecque, provost and vice president for academic affairs, said.
"We are really excited that Dr. Niroomand has agreed to join the leadership at UHV," she said.
He is a professor at the University of Southern Mississippi and was previously associate dean and graduate program director for the university's internationally accredited College of Business and chairman of the Economics and International Business department.
"I am extremely honored to join the team at UHV," Niroomand said. "I am particularly excited by the tremendous potential the School of Business Administration possesses."
He received the award for Excellence in Trade Education from the Mississippi World Trade Center in November for his global business and international trade contributions to the state's business community.
The SoBA is one of only approximately 560 business schools in the world that are accredited by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International, he said.
"Dr. Niroomand's stellar credentials, experience and collegiality made him the clearly preferred choice. He will be an asset to our students and our community," Tim Hudson, UHV president, said.
Niroomand earned his doctorate in international economics from Michigan State University in East Lansing, and has taught undergraduate and graduate classes in international trade and finance at three other universities.
He served as the director and professor of record for international study abroad programs in Spain, Japan, Costa Rica, Hong Kong and England. He has supervised more than 500 students who have studied overseas.
"Because we live in a world that is increasingly interdependent, international education is absolutely necessary to building the global knowledge for our students to become effective leaders and to be job competitive," Niroomand said.
Niroomand will move to Victoria with his wife, Farnaz Zand, an assistant professor of computer science at Southern Miss.
