Missing 54 shots and losing by two had the Faith Academy Cougars shaking their heads in disbelief.

"Our shots just weren't falling," said Faith Academy head coach Matt McLeod after watching his team fall 66-64 in a TAPPS 9-2A game against Bryan Brazos Christian on Tuesday at the Faith Academy gym. "We have to give credit to Brazos though. They were playing really hard on defense all game. We had tough looks against them, but we also missed some shots that we usually make. They gave us everything they had."

The Lady Cougars moved to 2-1 in TAPPS 9-2A play with a 52-32 win before the Cougars loss. Stormy Clark scored 19 points and Shayla Mathis put in nine for the Lady Cougars who led 29-12 at halftime.

The Cougars (20-7, 2-1) shot 25-of-79 from the field and hit only five of their 19 3-point attempts. Joe Garcia led the Cougars with 25 points, while Trey Hamilton went for 14 in the loss.

"We just couldn't get the stops against them that we have been in other games," Garcia said. "We got going at some points in the game, but we could never really get going."

Faith Academy trailed throughout the first half, but battled back to take a 34-29 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.

The Eagles (10-6, 2-0) dominated the third quarter though, and never trailed in the second half after a John Yezak 3-pointer midway through the third.

Kurt Bost led Brazos Christian with 18 points and Scotty McCury added 16 for the Eagles. Brazos Christian shot 33 fewer shots than Faith Academy, but shot 50 percent from the field to take the advantage in the district race.

"There are some adjustments we can make next time against them, but we are going to try to reinvent what we try to do," McLeod said. "When we created the tempo we wanted we were successful, when they controlled us, we weren't successful."

The Cougars return to the court on Friday against Christian Life Academy in a non-district contest at 6 p.m. at home.
