U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) toured the South Texas Project Nuclear Operating Center on Aug. 13, and spoke about the need for more low-cost efficient energy sources in America. STP executives, government officials and members of the community and press were all present for the senator’s speech, which she gave immediately following a briefing and tour of the STP Nuclear Training Facility. “Today we are in an energy crisis here in America that we can solve,” said Sen. Hutchison to the crowd of almost 50. “We can solve it the same way we have solved every problem America has had for over 200 years, and that is by coming together on a bipartisan basis, and maybe even making sacrifices, to do the right thing to get through this problem.” What STP is doing currently with their proposed expansion of units 3 and 4, she said, is the perfect example of exactly what America needs.
