Out of all the eateries we have visited in Bay City, we agreed the salad bar is probably the best in Matagorda County. We also enjoyed the atmosphere, which was enhanced by the salad bar – it sits in a wagon, complete with wheels. The salad bar wagon was fresh and clean, with a variety of vegetables and side dishes to pick from. The eatery also has a super burger, which is a 10 ounce grilled sirloin that will fill the hungriest of appetites. The sandwich comes with French fries and a trip to the salad bar. Steaks are K-2 Restaurant’s signature meals. Customers have a choice of a 10-ounce black angus ribeye, 10-ounce black angus ribeye blackened and smothered with grilled shrimp, onions and bell peppers. They also have fajita steaks, steak and shrimp, chopped sirloin, liver and onions, pork chops, and hamburger steaks are just a few of the dishes they have to offer. All entrees come with your choice baked potato or French fries, skillet potatoes. Side vegetable dishes are also available and a trip to the salad bar for one. The restaurant is also noted for their seafood plates. Customers have a wide variety of platters to pick from, such as fried shrimp platter, stuffed crab, catfish platter, oysters from Matagorda Bay, chicken and shrimp platter and bacon wrapped shrimp. For those that like a variety of seafood dishes, the seafood platter is an excellent choice. The seafood platter includes stuffed crab, shrimp, catfish fillet and oysters and one bite and you’re hooked on this dish forever. All orders are served in a low-light dining room that has western memorabilia hanging on the walls. For a romantic or intimate occasion, K-2 Restaurant’s atmosphere is top-notch. In all, K-2 Restaurant is much improved from last year’s visit with customer service. Our meals came to our table about 10 minutes after finishing our plate from the salad bar. For people that are looking for a quick meal, we suggest visiting another establishment. However, if time is in plentiful supply, the restaurant’s food, price and atmosphere are worth the trip. FYI: The K-2 Steakhouse restaurant and bar is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Gary Kubeczka is the owner of K-2 and the restaurant has been serving steaks and seafood since 1981.
