Broadway Buddies coming to Victoria

Forget the Great White Way. Next week, Broadway is coming to Victoria.

For the third year in a row, New York cabaret performer Christine Pedi will be coming to the city, and this time she is bringing along friend and fellow performer, John Treacy Egan.

Presented by Theatre Victoria, Pedi and Egan will put on their show "Broadway Buddies," a comedic and musical tribute to Broadway, according to a theater news release.

"We'll be doing what we do best," Pedi said. "We'll be singing a little bit of everything, telling anecdotes about our friendship and our experience on stage. I'll be doing some of my comedy and John has an operatic trained voice and sings like an angel."

Pedi and Egan met back when they were both doing community theater in the suburbs of New York City, she added. Since then, Pedi has gone on to star in "Forbidden Broadway" and star in her own one-woman show. Egan has starred in such Broadway shows as Disney's "The Little Mermaid," "The Producers" and "Jekyll & Hyde." He has also appeared on numerous television shows, such as "30 Rock," "Law & Order" and "As the World Turns."

"We love working and traveling together," Pedi said. "I'm so used to performing on my own, where it's just me and the pianist, so it's nice to have someone there on stage with me to bounce things off of."

In 2007, Pedi put on her one-woman show "Great Dames" at the Leo J. Welder Center and in 2008, she was back with "Great Dames Returns."

    CAN'T GET ENOUGH BROADWAY MUSIC?

    Tune into Christine Pedi's radio show on Sirius Satellite Radio on the Broadway Channel. Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Pedi will be spinning the show tunes and doing interviews with Broadway movers and shakers.
