It might be hard to believe, given the recent sub-freezing nights in the Victoria area, but spring is not far away, and one of the great things about spring is baseball.
These are exciting times for the University of Houston-Victoria, where the Jaguars have begun practice for their second season.
With veteran major leaguer Terry Puhl as head coach, the Jaguars should field a very competitive team and may even improve on the impressive 29-5 record of last year.
So as the weather hopefully warms toward their Jan. 30 opener against Northwood University at Riverside Stadium, it would be a great idea to gather friends or family and head out to the ballpark for an afternoon of fun.
There is nothing like the thrill of rooting for your hometown team, and we have the opportunity to do so, and hopefully back a real winner.
Spring is in the air with every practice session our Jaguars go through.
Won't it be great when they take the field for the real thing, only a couple of weeks from now.
Go Jaguars!
